BMW R1100RT as purchased

BMW_R1100T.jpg

Here is the 2000 R1100RT as we purchased it in the fall of 2007. It was already a great motorcycle. With only 36000 miles on it, we felt it had a lot more to go.

Project Completed (After Picture)

Here is the 2000 R1100RT as we finished.  The changes are subtle, but I kind consider this an upgrade and recycling at it best.   I will probably keep this R1100RT-L forever.  My children will have to decide on who gets what in my garage when I am gone.

Body Panels & Wheels Removal

Our first step was to remove all of the body panels and wheels. Motorcycle jacks come in handy!!

Body Panels in Wait

The hardest part was findng a place for all of the parts removed. I have the luggage in the basement and the body panels of top of the Corvette which is sitting it out for the winter.

Recycled Sound System

BenchTest.jpg

We wanted to add a sound system without spending too much money. We took an old PC speaker system and dismembered the components with a band saw. We glued things back together to get an amplifier box and 2 speakers with mounting frames. Here we have plugged all of the components together with a MP3 player and have music.  We bought the cable tubing from Fry's Electronics.

Keyed Power Plugs

We had to find a keyed power source so the sound system only played when the key was on. Below the left turn signal we found several unused plugs. The two 1/4 inch spade connectors were tied into the ignition being turned on.

Speaker Mounts

Here we have the speakers glued into the holes provided on the R1100RT under-dash frame. Again we use black silicon caulking to secure the speakers.

Amplifier Location

We found a perfect place for the amplifier. We ran a plastic tubing front to back (6 feet) to run our wiring through.
